I remember the first dream God ever gave me. He graciously planted it in my heart and I wanted it so bad, I could almost taste it.
But the way was unclear and God wasn’t sharing His roadmap with me. So I made a decision.
I decided not to trust God’s plan and timing.
Then I seized control of the unfolding of the dream and went my own way.
Big mistake. Huge.
The single worst decision of my life, bar none, because it led to more bad decisions.
Every single one of those bad decisions caused me to waste years of my life, and to endure unnecessary pain and suffering.
I could have avoided it all. If only I’d stuck with God and trusted His plan and timing over my own.

What It Means to Trust God’s Plan and Timing
And now you’re here, wondering if it’s worth it to trust God’s plan and timing.
On the outside, you may look like the original boss babe, killing it at work and in life. You look confident and in control, running no-holds-barred toward your goal.
But on the inside, you’re lost in turmoil.
Maybe, like I did, you’re wondering why you feel unfilled, despite your outward success. Or maybe, like I was, you’re caught up in a toxic relationship with no clue how to get out of it. Or maybe, like I did, you’re struggling with hating your well-paying job.
And in the middle of all this, maybe you don’t trust God anymore because you’ve been begging Him to guide you, rescue you…to do something. But He’s seemed silent and you’re left wondering why God doesn’t talk to you and what on earth His plan for you even is.
Or maybe your life is fine…as long as everything is nice and calm.
But as soon as uncertainty or hard times enter the picture, you find yourself teetering on the edge of confusion and panic. Afraid of your unknown future and wondering what to do next.

I see you because I was you. And I know what it’s like to struggle with trusting God’s plan and timing, especially when things around you—or inside you—seem to be going to hell in a handbasket.
First, take a deep breath.
God is still on the throne, no matter how out of control things may seem in your world.
The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.
Psalm 103:19 (NLT)
And as much as panic or confusion may seem justified in your situation, they aren’t God’s style.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Joshua 1:9 (ESV)
Also, you may need to check if you have some spiritual deafness to overcome. Because I’ve learned a couple of things in the years since I stepped back in line with God’s plan and timing:
- God always wants to guide you. It’s usually you who isn’t paying attention or missing signs God is speaking to you.
- When you trust God’s plan and timing, you work like the outcome depends on you. But you pray, wait, and listen with your spiritual ears like it all depends on God.
Because it does.
Bible Verses about God’s Timing and Plan
Now, people can tell you whatever they want and make it sound true. It’s how a lot of us end up with buyer’s remorse.
So I could tell you all about why putting your trust in God’s plan and timing and waiting on Him are your best bet. But instead, I’ll let get it straight from the Source—from God Himself.
Wait for the Lord and keep his way, and he will exalt you to inherit the land; you will look on when the wicked are cut off.
Psalm 37:34 (ESV)
Of course, you can always choose not to trust God’s plan and timing, like Sarai and Abram. Then, like them—and like me!—you can go ahead and reap the resulting suffering, pain, and drama.
But I hope you’ll choose instead to wait on and trust in God’s plan and timing. If you do, these Bible verses will come in handy to reinforce your faith and trust while you wait on Him.
Oh! One word of warning before we dive in.
Don’t make the mistake of dismissing these Bible verses about God’s timing and plan as trite or clichéd. If you do, you’ll only be robbing yourself since every single word from God’s mouth has the power to save you.
All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
Now you’re ready. Let’s go.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in Your book all the days [of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:16 (AMPC)
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. Psalm 138:8 (ESV)

The bottom line:

- God is all-powerful and His plans will come to fruition, with or without you.
- Your circumstances don’t dictate God’s plans. God’s plans work out despite and through your circumstances.
- God is ready to work with you to bring His plan to completion.

To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (AMPC)

The Lord is good to those who depend on him, to those who search for him. So it is good to wait quietly for salvation from the Lord. Lamentations 3:25-26 (NLT)
And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. Galatians 6:9 (AMPC)
The bottom line:

- Even though your wait seems never-ending, the vision God gave you will happen at the proper time
- God will reward your wait, but waiting doesn’t mean you sit around doing anything. It means you do what’s right and what God tells you to do while you wait and trust God’s plan and timing.
